If Arthur Conan Doyle had wanted to pen a mystery set in China, he would have sent Sherlock Holmes to find some Jin Jun Mei tea. And Holmes likely would have failed. For Jin Jun Mei is an extremely rare tea. However, due to a collaboration between Yezi Tea and tea farmer Wu Qiong, we are able to bring you the finest Jin Jun Mei from the Tan Yang Mountains of China.
Jin Jun Mei grows at 4,500 feet above sea level, at which altitude there is very little agricultural land available to grow tea. This in large part explains why there is so little Jin Jun Mei to go around. But we can be thankful for the little Jin Jun Mei that is available every year. This loose-leaf tea, like no other, engages your senses at multiples levels: with its complex taste, whose body and rhythm evolve for as many as fifteen brews; its fragrance, which evokes a world of faraway orchids; and the tea leaves themselves, which are shaped like eyebrows perched neatly over dove-shaped eyes.
I got this tea as one of the free samples with my last order. It is surprisingly light and sweet with no astringency or bitterness. I brewed it according to the directions above. What I got was a beautiful golden brown brew with notes of dried fruits and honey. Absolutely delicious. One of my new favorite black teas. I will definitely be ordering more.
This tea tastes like mix of honey and pineapple with orchid aroma. Very smooth, no astringency, which I like. The leaves were pretty dry, long, curved like eyebrow. They were golden color, with mix of deep brown and black. Very enjoyable tea. Oh, btw, Yezi called this tea a red tea.
Brewed in a glass test tube steeper. The leaves are tiny, slightly twisty, hairy, and a mix of brown and tan (cute little things). Very nice to look at while they're in the steeper. The dry leaf aroma is malty and chocolately. The wet leaf aroma smells so much like fudge brownies. The liquor is golden, fuzzy, silky, full-bodied, and full with flavors of malt, chocolate, and honey goodness. Overall feel is a hug. Excellent for long cold, rainy days.
First, I want to thank you yezi for such a great sample and the super fast shipping! Second, if you haven't try this tea yet, I recommend! You won't regret it! I hate writing review, and this is actually my first tea review because this tea gave me a SHOCK. It was A-A-AMAZING! Ugh, that fragrance, and that natural sweetness is indescribable! Im so glad i got a sample of this. Just one sip and it made a spot on my top 5 tea list. I would love to drink this EVERYDAY if it wasn't killin my wallet. BUT, definetly worth it! I'm gonna buy a super fancy tin, keep this tea in stock and then savor it slowly.
